A recent survey conducted by Portland-based DHM Research has revealed that a significant portion of Portland voters believe that the city is heading in the wrong direction. Out of the 500 voters polled, around 40% identified homelessness as their top concern, while half of the voters expressed a negative outlook on future economic opportunities.
For the past 12 years, DHM Research has partnered with the Portland Metro Chamber to gauge voter sentiment regarding the top concerns for the region. The survey included participants from various areas within the Portland-metro area, encompassing parts of Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington counties. Conducted from December 13th to 19th, the survey aimed to gather responses from individuals of different ages, political affiliations, and geographical locations. It has a margin of error of 4.4%.
The survey results indicated a prevailing negative sentiment among voters in multiple categories. Just over half of the respondents believed that Portland is moving in the wrong direction, and a staggering eight in 10 voters expressed that the quality of life in the city is deteriorating. Additionally, half of the voters stated that they are worse off now compared to two years ago. Notably, this is the first time that more people have expressed a negative view of future economic opportunities rather than a positive one.
The survey highlights the concerns and frustrations of Portland voters regarding the current state and future prospects of the city.
