Gresham-Barlow Teacher Arrested In Undercover Sting For Attempted Sexual Contact With Minor

A teacher from the Gresham-Barlow School District was apprehended yesterday during a sting operation initiated by the Bothell Police Department in Washington state. Oscar Armando Ramirez, 36, was arrested by the Portland Police Bureau’s Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) along with other units after being indicted on several charges related to attempting sexual contact with a minor.

The investigation into Ramirez commenced when a Bothell Police detective, posing as a 13-year-old girl, engaged in communication with him as part of the undercover operation. According to a press release from the Portland Police Bureau, the dialogue quickly escalated to sexual topics, with arrangements made for a meeting during a time when the girl’s parents would supposedly be away.

The investigation began with a sting operation conducted by the Bothell Police Department, which is a proactive measure to catch individuals attempting to exploit minors online. Such operations often involve undercover detectives posing as children to identify potential predators.

After four days of conversation, the Bothell Police alerted their counterparts in Portland, prompting swift action from local law enforcement. The Portland Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) team, which is part of the Child Abuse Team (CAT), quickly took over the investigation. Subsequently, the Gresham-Barlow School District was informed, leading to Ramirez being placed on administrative leave.

The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office collaborated with the Portland Police Bureau to present the case to a Grand Jury, resulting in Ramirez facing charges that include three counts of Luring a Minor and Online Sexual Corruption of a Child in the Second Degree, as reported on Tuesday. Ramirez was arrested outside his residence in the Sunnyside Neighborhood of Southeast Portland. So far, there is no evidence indicating that any students or other children were involved in these alleged offenses.
