Pedestrian, 2 Dogs Killed In Hit-And-Run

This past weekend in Southeast Portland, a hit-and-run killed a pedestrian and two dogs. The police are investigating the deadly hit-and-run crash which happened in the Lents neighborhood. The pedestrian and two dogs were walking on Southeast Holgate.

It was a tragic scene along Southeast Holgate Boulevard at Southeast 100th Avenue in the Lents neighborhood after this deadly hit-and-run crash.

A group of cops, called the Portland Police Major Crash Team, spent hours investigating the crash which took the life of the person walking on Holgate. The pedestrian was walking the two dogs that were both killed in the crash. The victim has not been identified.

The scene was near a crosswalk on Holgate. Police have said that the crash involved two vehicles and that the pedestrian and dogs were killed during the collision.

After the crash, one of the two drivers ran off. Bystanders at the scene said that it looked like one car was rear-ended. It did not appear to be a low-speed collision. Nearby residents said they listen to speeders all night long speeding motorcycles, cars up and down the streets. They said the racing up and down the streets is getting worse.

Portland designates Holgate Boulevard as a high-crash street, one of 30 identified as such in the city. In an attempt to combat those crashes, the speed limit has been lowered to 30 miles per hour and the Portland Bureau of Transportation has made some safety moves, like improved crosswalks. Police are still looking for the driver who ran from the scene.
