3 Shootings With 2 Dead In Portland

Police are reporting 2 dead, 1 hurt in 3 shootings across Portland. This was a series of shootings that took place all within one hour overnight Sunday. Portland Police said they responded to a reported shooting around 2:15 Sunday morning near the corner of Southwest 3rd Avenue and Burnside.

Evidence of a shooting in the parking lot was discovered behind some businesses. A man with injuries related to the shooting showed up at a local hospital not too long after. Law enforcement said officers heard two more shots a couple of blocks away to the north.

Police said they dispatched to that shooting. There were no reported injuries there. It was less than 40 minutes after that shooting that the another shooting happened. The report was of multiple shots having been fired near the corner of SE 26th and Belmont. When police got there, they said they found a man dead and a woman hurt. She was taken to the hospital where she later died.

Police are investigating and viewing this case as a homicide. So far, no arrests were reported in any of the shootings.

A new report released Saturday from Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler’s office says that not only have homicides and shootings skyrocketed in Portland since 2019, but that on average, those suspected of committing the acts have been arrested many times before.

Portland is looking deeply into this report. The report, titled Portland Homicide Problem Analysis, focused on an ongoing wave of gun violence plaguing the Rose City. At the end of 2021, Portland’s crime rate surprised even the police. Portland cops have said they were struggling with an understaffed, demoralized force. The city logged more than 1,000 shootings in 2021 and shattered a homicide record set in 1987.
