A suspect linked to a shooting incident in downtown Portland last June has been apprehended in Washington County and charged with attempted murder among other offenses. The incident occurred on June 29, 2025, at approximately 4:46 a.m., when officers from the Portland Police Central Precinct responded to reports of gunfire at the intersection of Northwest 6th Avenue and Northwest Glisan Street in the Old Town neighborhood. Although evidence of a shooting was recovered, the victim, who reported being targeted, fortunately sustained no injuries.
The Portland Police Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) took over the investigation, gathering evidence and witness testimonies that led to the identification of the suspect, Marquez Goldsby II, 21, from Aloha, Oregon. On August 8, 2025, around 3:30 p.m., ECST learned that Goldsby was at his residence on Southwest Mapleoak Lane in Aloha.
Given the severity of the charges and the potential presence of firearms, the ECST sought help from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), which deployed its Tactical Negotiations Team (TNT) to assist in the arrest. Goldsby was taken into custody, and following a search warrant executed by ECST detectives and officers from the Portland Police Bureau’s Focused Intervention Team (FIT), a handgun was confiscated from his apartment. However, authorities believe this firearm is not the one used in the June 29 shooting, and efforts to locate that weapon continue.
Goldsby is currently held at the Multnomah County Detention Center on multiple charges, including Attempted Murder in the Second Degree with a firearm, Attempted Assault in the First Degree with a firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
A release sent out to the public explained that the Bureau’s Focused Intervention Team (FIT) and Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) engage with the National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (NICJR) under a focused deterrence initiative known as Portland Ceasefire, aimed at mitigating gun violence through cooperative efforts among various city departments, community safety organizations, and local leaders.
