Northwest Premier Junior Football League 8U Championships

This game was a defensive battle from beginning to end, with some explosive offensive plays by both sides sprinkled in between.

The Ravens defense set the tone first as they recovered a fumble with 6:30 left in the first quarter. However, the Bruins quickly returned the favor as Donovan Shaw recovered a fumble with 4:25 left. Then the Ravens got the ball back, as they stripped the ball from Benson’s  Anthony Dunston, Jr. and recovered the ball at the 49. Benson then forced the Ravens to turnover the ball on downs, and the first quarter ended with both teams digging their heels deep into the turf.

At the end of the first half, the two teams had battled to a tie game, 0-0.

With 43 seconds left in the third quarter the Ravens’ J’Shaun Wilson broke for a 46 yard run to the Bruins 15. However, a few plays later Benson’s Jermaine Tofa recovered a fumble at the 15 to end the Ravens scoring threat. Will Conroy, Jr. gave Benson some room with a great run to the 35, as the teams entered the 4th quarter with neither team trying to give up an inch.

With 4:15 left in 4th quarter a facemask penalty gave the Ravens the ball at the Bruins 21. However, on a 3rd and goal play from the 8, the Bruins’ defense converged on Raven quarterback Michael Wayman as he ran up the middle and forced a fumble. The ball was recovered by Tofa, for his second fumble recovery of the game, to thwart another Ravens scoring threat.

The game went into overtime and the Ravens’ Jaylinn Haywood powered into the endzone on a 5-yard run. A successful PAT by Tim Rolle made the game 7-0. A slew of miscues by the Bruins moved them way out of scoring range, and ultimately they failed to score in overtime.
