Officer-involved Shooting in NE Portland

Portland started off the weekend with a police investigation of an officer-involved shooting. The incident took place in northeast Portland on Friday night after 9. It is being reported that one person was hospitalized. Two officers with the Focused Intervention Team made the traffic stop.

The vehicle targeted for the stop had multiple violations. Not much yet is being reported except the suspect was shot. There is life-threatening injuries being reported after the person was taken to a hospital.

Officials said the suspect was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Authorities closed NE Mason Street from NE 77th Avenue through NE 80th, along with 78th Avenue and 79th Avenue between Skidmore and Sandy.

The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) said that no officers were injured in the shooting. PPB has let out very little information and has not released what led up to the shooting. The department has not released names of the officers involved or the name of the suspect.

More will be reported as information is released as the investigation is expected to take several hours of collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. It is standard with the PBB that the homicide unit will be doing the investigation.
