Portland Teen Arrested After Shooting, Eluding Officers

A 15-year-old boy was arrested in the area of Southeast 119th Avenue and Southeast Oak Street. Police also confiscated a gun.  This happened in the Hazelwood Neighborhood where East Precinct police responded to the call.

The Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) detectives also responded and are investigating. A victim was reportedly located and was unhurt. The 15-year-old was arrested and taken to the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center. There was outstanding warrants with more charges to sought pending investigation.

The victim’s car back window was shot out as a result of the shooting. Bullets were found around the shooting area. The shooter teen was in a reported stolen black SUV which after located took cops on a chase. He then hopped out and ran. Police dogs were used in the search for the teen who was not immediately caught.

Last year Portland’s police department complained about acute staffing shortage and budget cuts. Funds we’re given to the department and more officers were hired. There has not been much coming from the police to the media about need more funds or cops lately. The city has a gang violence issue that continues to make the news.

The City of Portland is considered liberal with new ideas for fighting crime. Traffic barrels to prevent drive-by shootings like this and suspending minor traffic stops so officers can focus on immediate threats are but a couple. There have been 228 shooting incidents in Portland with 63 people injured by gunfire.
