Portland Shooting At Shimmers Club

“Washington points the firearm…with his left hand and then cocks his arm back and hits the 39-year-old in the head area with the firearm,” Deputy District Attorney Eric Zimmerman wrote in the affidavit. Borissean Thomas Washington, 26, was arraigned in Multnomah County Circuit Court on Monday afternoon on first-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault and unlawful use of a gun allegations.

At Shimmers Club off Southeast Foster Road police found Daquan Taeshawn James Turner, 27, dead on the ground from a wound to his upper chest. He and his cousin were in a gun fight with two others over a woman. Washington said he drank five shots earlier in the night and an argument erupted outside the club when a 39-year-old man used derogatory words toward Washington’s girlfriend.

After a small scuffle, Washington went into the club and came back outside, this time with Turner, police said. Turner is seen on the video pulling a gun with an extended magazine from his jacket. Washington grabs the gun from Turner, hits the 39-year-old man in the head with the gun, the gun fired one shot, striking Turner in the upper chest. Turner crumbled to the ground.

Washington is being held at the Multnomah County Detention Center on $505,000 bond and is due back in court on Dec. 29. The manslaughter allegation accuses him of recklessly causing another’s death through extreme indifference to the value of human life.

Washington said he didn’t believe that he had shot his cousin and denied having his finger on the trigger. Turner’s killing is one of three homicides that has occurred in the city since Saturday, which have pushed Portland’s homicide count this year to a record 85.
