Community Members Invited To Discuss Public Safety Trends With Portland Police Leaders

Portland residents will have an opportunity this month to question police leaders about a year that saw declines in homicides, shootings, traffic fatalities and overdose deaths as the Portland Police Bureau hosts a series of virtual community meetings focused on its 2025 Annual Report.

The meetings will give community members a chance to hear directly from Chief Bob Day and precinct commanders about public safety trends, crime reduction efforts, staffing, accountability measures and bureau priorities outlined in the report. Residents will also be able to ask questions and discuss issues affecting their neighborhoods.

The Portland Police Bureau’s 2025 Annual Report provides a broad overview of the agency’s operations, including public safety initiatives, investigations, community engagement efforts, staffing levels and budget priorities.

Among the report’s findings, homicides declined 24% in 2025, while shooting incidents fell 29% compared with the previous year, marking the fourth consecutive year of declining shootings. Traffic fatalities also decreased by more than one-third, and reported overdose deaths fell 25%, according to bureau data.

The report also points to gains in police staffing after several years of workforce challenges. The bureau reported a net increase of 27 sworn officers in 2025, its largest hiring cohort in more than 25 years. As of Dec. 31, 2025, the bureau had 813 sworn officers on staff.

In addition to public safety trends, the report outlines the bureau’s accountability efforts, including body-worn camera compliance, use-of-force reporting and internal investigations. The Professional Standards Division managed 117 cases during 2025 and reported that 85% of investigations were completed within established timelines.

Police officials say the meetings are intended to provide residents with a closer look at bureau operations and an opportunity to discuss public safety concerns specific to their communities.

Three virtual meetings are scheduled:

East Precinct: Wednesday, June 10, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Each meeting will include precinct-specific updates and discussions about crime trends, public safety priorities and community concerns.

In a message included in the annual report, Day said the bureau redesigned the report to make information more accessible and transparent while helping residents better understand public safety trends and police operations. The meetings are intended to continue that conversation by giving community members a direct opportunity to engage with bureau leadership and learn more about the issues affecting their neighborhoods.
