More than $4 million in federal funding has been awarded to two Oregon airports, a move officials say will support infrastructure improvements and help meet growing travel demand across the region.

U.S. Rep. Janelle Bynum, along with Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, announced the funding for Redmond Municipal Airport and Albany Municipal Airport, where the investments will be used to rebuild and upgrade essential facilities.

The improvements are aimed at strengthening regional connectivity, supporting local economies and ensuring airports can accommodate increased passenger traffic.

“Federal investments like this are vital to keeping Oregon’s communities connected and our economy moving,” Bynum said. “This funding will expand travel access, boost local businesses, and strengthen our region’s ability to compete and grow.”

Wyden emphasized the broader role airports play beyond travel, including their importance to emergency response and commerce. He said continued federal investment is key to keeping people and goods moving safely and efficiently across the state.

Merkley echoed that sentiment, highlighting the importance of regional airports as economic hubs and critical infrastructure during natural disasters. He said upgrades to facilities such as terminals and runways will improve reliability and efficiency for communities that depend on them.

The announcement builds on previous federal investments in Oregon’s aviation infrastructure. In June 2025, Bynum announced $9.7 million in funding for rural airports across the state.

Officials say the latest funding will help ensure Oregon’s regional airports remain equipped to serve growing demand while continuing to support business, travel and emergency operations.
