Missing Portland Elderly Women Found

“The Portland Police Bureau is grateful to everyone who helped look for Charlene and shared her photos on social media, to the news organizations who spread the word, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, and Tri-Met for their assistance,” police officials said after locating Charlene Otis of Portland Oregon. 

An elderly woman who was reported missing out of northeast Portland. Charlene Otis left her home near Southeast 162nd Avenue and Mill Street on Friday morning. Police said she has dementia and family members were concerned she could not find her way back home.

The Columbia County Search and Rescue team was called out to help look for Otis, but searches into the weekend were unsuccessful. On Sunday morning, officers were called out to reports of a person down in the 3200 block of Southeast 50th Avenue. They found Otis, who was “suffering from some effects of exposure but otherwise appeared healthy.” Otis was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation, where family will reunite with her.

Another elderly 85 year old Adela Chapman left her home in the 16700 block of Southeast Rhine Street just after 7 a.m. on Monday and had not returned home. Police said Chapman has not been diagnosed with any illnesses, but she is believed to have some difficulties with her memory or becoming confused.

Chapman was located in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood at around 8 a.m. Police said an alert community member saw her and recognized her from a news report. Police said Chapman was evaluated and was unhurt. She is now with her family.
