MAX Train Collision With Car Results In Hospitalization

A person has been hospitalized with “significant injuries” following a collision between a MAX train and a car on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred near the intersection of 108th and East Burnside Street, leaving a car overturned and damaged on the tracks.

Emergency responders from Portland Fire and Rescue swiftly arrived at the scene and successfully extricated the individual from the overturned vehicle. However, the MAX train also suffered damage, hindering crews from disconnecting the electrical connection from the overhead power wire. Efforts are underway to deactivate the electricity from the train car to ensure the safety of all involved.

In addition to the injured occupant of the car, firefighters reported that an individual inside the train was experiencing difficulties walking. Plans are being formulated to safely remove this individual from the train.

At 3:06 p.m., TriMet released a service alert notifying commuters of delays on the MAX Blue Line in Gresham due to a collision between a train and an automobile near 102nd Ave. It remains unclear if this incident is related to the aforementioned crash.

Authorities have confirmed that one patient is being transported to the hospital with significant injuries. However, it is currently uncertain whether this individual was from the overturned car or the occupant of the MAX train.

As investigations continue, commuters are advised to anticipate delays and seek alternative transportation options if necessary. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
