Guns Seized In Two Portland Cases

Members of the Portland Police seized three guns in two separate cases last week. It was reported that two occupants of a vehicle at Southeast 122nd Avenue and Southeast Lincoln Street were arrested. Both had warrants. Drugs were also found.

About three hour later, officers located and seized two more firearms from an entirely different suspect with no known connection to the earlier case. This suspect was located and arrested at Southeast 122nd and Holgate Street.

All but one of the 20 homicides in 2022 in Portland have been by guns. Some data show that Portland has 293 total shooting incidents that are non suicide related. Information also show that 84 people have been injured by gunfire this year.

A report was put out by Amnesty International that shows gun violence as also a global issue. It stated that more than 500 people die every day from gun violence and 44% of all homicides globally involve gun violence. In addition there were 1.4 million firearm-related deaths globally between 2012 and 2016 with an estimated 2,000 people injured by gunshots every single day.

Pain is only one issue involving guns and being shot. At least 2 million people are living with firearm injuries around the globe with millions of people suffering with severe and long-term psychological effects that gun violence – or the threat of gun violence – brings to individuals, families and their wider community. Amnesty’s report stated that “gunshot injuries are often life-changing and have an indelible impact on the victims’ long-term mental and physical health. Some need permanent, lifelong care, and many others lose their ability to work.”
