Guns Found, Arrests Made After Car Flees Traffic Stop

Two males are in custody after they were stopped by East Precinct patrol officers. A 23-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were arrested. Three guns were seized after they fled a traffic stop in Southeast Portland last Saturday morning after midnight.

Police officers initiated a traffic stop on a stolen 2020 Chrysler 300 at Southeast 82nd Avenue and Southeast Holgate Boulevard. The operator of the vehicle took off. Police reported that they did not pursue the vehicle. An Air Support Unit followed the vehicle from a police airplane. Officers used spike strips to deflate the tires once they located the suspect. The driver still refused to stop.

The pursuit ended in a crash into a pole and fences near Southeast 62nd Avenue and Southeast Knapp Street. The 2 men exited the car and ran. The 23 year old man was caught right away. The police used a police dog to track down the teenager.

The cops found 3 guns. One had a 50 round high capacity drum magazine with rounds of 9mm ammunition. The 23 year old was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Unauthorized Entry into a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Attempt to Elude by Vehicle, Attempt to Elude on Foot, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, and Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver-Property Damage.
