Fire At Oregon Pregnancy Crisis Center Investigated

Officials said they are investigating a fire that damaged a pregnancy crisis center. Investigators believe an incendiary device was thrown through a window with no attached messages or notes. The clinic will temporarily close as a result of the incident.

There was a similar fire in New York to the one here at the pregnancy resource center in Gresham. The fire damaged the building. The blaze happened inside of the Gresham Pregnancy Resource Center at around 3am. There were no injuries reported.

In a statement posted to its website, First Image said the fire was primarily in one room, but damage there was extensive and there is additional water and smoke damage in other parts of the building.

“The kind of outrage that’s being directed at us is based on a complete misunderstanding and misrepresentation of who we are and how we have served the hundreds of thousands of people that have come to us over the decades,” First Image said.

The fire chief said that there is enough to tell that the fire is suspicious in nature. This fire is in the news as the abortion issue has also been strong in the news. This came about over the leak of a drafted opinion of a supreme court ruling which would overturn Roe v Wade. That major decision of 1973 guaranteed the right to abortion.

The Gresham center is one of three clinics in the Portland area. It is run by First Image, a Christian organization. First Image pregnancy centers encourage pregnant people to give birth, instead of having an abortion. A full supreme court ruling is expected this month.
