According to officials, SFD will offer the Pfizer vaccine to every SPS middle and high school, and all three charter schools in Seattle by May 27, 2021. On Monday, May 17, SFD began hosting 52 in-school vaccination clinics, including four hosted by UW Medicine or Swedish, and three in-school clinics at charter schools.

Dr. Rachel Issaka, a gastroenterologist and assistant professor with UW Medicine and a health services researcher with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, said she is not surprised by the new recommendations. But she added she’s also a bit worried about health-care system capacity, and how this might affect the Black and underserved communities.

Pure Eire Dairy is working with the state Department of Agriculture to identify and recall all affected products. Anyone who has PCC Community Market brand yogurt at home should not eat it and should throw it away.

“Seattle’s road to recovery starts with vaccinations. We can’t safely come together again as a city and a community until the vast majority of us are vaccinated, and that includes our younger residents,” said Durkan. “The City is proud to immediately begin offering the Pfizer vaccine to youth throughout our region, and we’ll continue to come up with creative ways to bring the vaccine directly to our communities.”

The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) has expanded COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to everyone 12 and older following recommendations that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is safe and extremely effective for 12 to 15-year-olds.

"FDA has done everything we can to ensure that the Covid-19 vaccines we have authorized have met the agency's high standards for quality, safety and effectiveness. We know that every time an American, including members of our own families, receives a Covid-19 vaccine dose, you are putting your trust in us."

According to an administration official, there are a handful of states that are only ordering a percentage of what has been set aside for them, redirecting many of those doses back to a federal pool that was created in anticipation of this drop in demand.

“Poverty and period poverty go hand-in-glove,” said Rep. April Berg (D-Mill Creek). “More than four in five students have missed class time, or know someone who has, because they didn’t have access to period products. This is holding students back in school, which affects their future. And we needed to do something to fix it.”

Since launching its vaccination effort on January 14, the City of Seattle has administered over 170,000 vaccinations to eligible adults (over 111,000 individuals).

When you get vaccinated, you’re not doing it just for yourself. You’re doing it for those close to you, for your friends and family, and for the community. If we want to see an end to this pandemic and get back to some sense of normalcy, we need to get vaccinated.
