James Posey Now Helms the Portland NAACP

Long time business leader and activist James Posey has won an election to become the next president of Portland’s NAACP local chapter. Recently, Posey was on the Resource Scholars Show with Portland community supporter and former local barber Paul Knauls Jr. They spoke on the show about the great work the NAACP in Portland can do in bringing multiple generations of Black people together.

The entire show was hosted by James Posey who has been been a guest on KBMS radio speaking mainly of economics and decreasing the problems the Black community has through living wage jobs and business opportunities. James Posey has been a huge supporter of the I-5 Rose Quarter Improvement Project. He and the owner (Jeff Moreland) of one of the bridge project’s prime general contractors, Raimore Construction, has an interview about providing the community jobs and building wealth through the construction trades. Now, Posey has a great platform from which to share his ideas and plans to address poverty through the support of private/public partnerships.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has a history of fighting for Blacks to enjoy equal opportunity and access to government contracts and jobs. The national NAACP was founded in 1909. Portland’s NAACP (Branch 1120-B) was founded in 1914, making it the oldest continuously chartered branch west of the Mississippi. It’s website states that at one time, the Portland NAACP had its own credit union.
