In Sunday, a group of juveniles allegedly robbed people at gunpoint on the corner of Northeast Alberta and 52nd. Police say luckily no one was hurt. And, two days before on Friday at approximately 2:08 a.m., officers from the Central Precinct and the Entertainment Detail responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Southwest 4th Avenue and Southwest Washington Street in Downtown Portland. Officers arrived and found an adult male, who has since been identified, deceased.
The PPB said at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to multiple pedestrians robbed at gunpoint in the 5200 block of Northeast Alberta Street. Law enforcement set up an eight-block perimeter and police say they called out the SERT and CNT team because the suspects were believed to be armed.
Officers working on the parameter were able to detain some suspects, while SERT and K9 units located and detained the others hiding. The number of suspects arrested has not been released, but are all believed to be juveniles. Officers from East and Central Precinct responded and Gresham Police assisted as well.
The victim in the Friday shooting at Southwest 4th Avenue and Southwest Washington Street in Downtown Portland is identified as Jonathan Dunbar, 39. The medical examiner determined the manner and cause of death to be homicide by gunshot. Police sent out a release stating that an investigation is continuing.
It is stated in U.S. News and World Report the Portland metropolitan area’s violent crime rate was lower than the national rate in 2020. However, it’s rate of property crime was higher than the national rate. Crime rate is the number of crimes committed per 100,000 people.
