Biden Visited Portland Ahead Of Elections

Biden visited Portland again last week. His recent campaigning travels has included him talking about reproductive rights. He has promised to sign a bill codifying the terms of Roe v. Wade into law if Democrats win enough seats in Congress. Last time he was in the Rose City he talked about technology, electric cars and infrastructure.

This time is closer to the November elections. The Dems Will to drive voter turnout, and draw attention to the abortion issue. Tina Kotek’s bid for governor benefited from the visit? Some say the races are closer than usual. Hot-button issues and get-out-the-vote campaigns are in full swing.

Turnout is one thing, however importance also lies in voter registration. In the last generation in Oregon, the Democratic organization’s vote-raising efforts have persistently beaten Republican competitors. Biden is looking to shore up his base and motivate them to show up.

Biden showed up at one Dem call center and spent 20 minutes working the phones himself to generate votes. Biden’s visits around the country tied itself to the reproductive rights hotbutton issue. It was a major hot topic in late summer and early fall. It is not so much of a red hot topic now.

Tina Kotek’s website states that she is a progressive fighter and the first openly lesbian Speaker of any State House in the country. It posted that in her position as legislators, she raised the minimum wage, passed paid family leave, and voted to put Oregon on a path to 100% clean electricity.
