Beginning Thursday, Reed College will provide free tuition to newly admitted students from Oregon, Washington, and other states across the U.S. whose family income is below $100,000. “Reed College has long believed that our student aid program ensured access to the best educational experience higher education can offer,” said Milyon Trulove, VP and Dean of Admissions. “I am excited to offer this financial promise to our prospective students in the Pacific Northwest and transfer students from around the country.”
This initiative aims to remove financial obstacles that may have previously discouraged students from pursuing their educational aspirations. For the 2024-2025 academic year, Reed College’s tuition is set at $69,040. According to the college’s website, over 57% of its students receive some form of need-based financial aid.
Given that the average household income in Oregon is approximately $103,000, Milyon Trulove, vice president and dean of admission and financial aid at Reed College, anticipates that a significant number of Oregon students will benefit from the Reed Promise program.
While the new program exclusively covers tuition costs, Trulove noted that most qualifying students can also receive financial aid for on-campus housing and fees. First- and second-year students are required to reside on campus and maintain a meal plan during those years. To take advantage of the Reed Promise initiative, students must live on campus.
“Our graduates leave Reed College equipped to make meaningful contributions to society by addressing some of the most pressing challenges we face,” remarked Reed College President Audrey Bilger. “I am thrilled to launch this initiative, which will enable even more students to access Reed’s diverse academic offerings and become part of our vibrant community.”
