Grand Central Bakery, with locations in Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, has announced a voluntary recall of certain frozen pie products due to the presence of an undeclared egg allergen. The recall was published on the FDA website on Saturday after being issued on Friday.
The affected products include U-Bake Pie Crust, U-Bake Apple Pie, U-Bake Marionberry Pie, and U-Bake Chicken Pot Pie. These items were sold between August 1, 2024, and October 20, 2024, and carry expiration dates ranging from February 1, 2025, to April 20, 2025.
The products were packaged in clear plastic with Grand Central Bakery’s branded sticker labels, which do not disclose the inclusion of egg. The expiration date can be found on the outside of the packaging.
Individuals with an egg allergy could face serious or potentially life-threatening reactions if they consume these pies. Grand Central Bakery has advised customers who purchased the recalled items to either dispose of them or contact the company for a refund.
One of the most prevalent allergens, peanut allergies can cause severe reactions, and even trace amounts can trigger symptoms. Cow’s milk allergy is common, especially in children. It can provoke reactions ranging from mild to severe. Egg allergies are also prevalent, particularly among children. Both egg whites and yolks can cause allergic reactions.
