The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department has revealed that eight parks and campgrounds will be closed for construction, with work expected to continue throughout the winter and into the new year.
These closures will impact popular destinations such as Silver Falls, Fort Stevens, Milo McIver, and Bullards Beach. The construction projects will include paving, sewer replacements, and the installation of new electrical lines, all funded by $50 million in general obligation bonds approved by the Oregon Legislature in 2021.
At Silver Falls State Park, the campgrounds (except cabins 1-10) will remain closed until June 30 to facilitate the replacement of the B-Loop restroom and the repaving of A Loop. However, all other park facilities, including trails, trailheads, day-use areas, and the South Falls Lodge, will stay open. Plans for 2025 include the addition of a new campground and visitor center.
Fort Stevens will see closures in campground loops L, M, N, O, and C, along with cabins, yurts, and the South Lake restroom, lasting through 2025. This work involves wastewater and water system upgrades, electrical improvements, paving, and the construction of a new restroom. Other campsites and day-use areas will remain accessible. The historic Guardhouse will also be restored, including roof repairs and utility upgrades.
Bullards Beach campground (excluding the horse camp) will be closed until March 17 for enhancements to the main sewer line and lift station to meet increased demand and minimize service interruptions. While all campsites, overnight restroom facilities, yurts, the meeting hall, and dump station will be closed, the day-use area will remain open with limited disruptions.
The campground at Milo McIver was previously closed and will continue to be until March 31. Planned improvements include refurbishing a restroom building and repaving roads, while day-use areas will stay open.
Nehalem Bay State Park will close until July 1, affecting both the campground and day-use areas, as new water and electrical lines are installed, along with restroom and shower buildings. Additionally, nine campsites will be renovated for better accessibility, and traffic calming improvements will be made to the park entry road.
Cape Lookout State Park will undergo construction during the summer of 2025 but will remain open until that time. The campground and day-use area will close during construction, anticipated to last from summer or fall 2025 into spring or summer 2026. Starting at 9 a.m. on December 20, reservable campsites in loops A, B, C, and D, as well as deluxe cabins and yurts, will be available for online reservations for stays between March 1 and May 31, 2025.
