Portland Parks & Recreation recently announced the Play Swim and Free Swim Schedule for the summer season. With a total of four indoor pools and seven outdoor pools under its ownership and operation, residents and visitors can now enjoy a variety of swimming options across the city.
The indoor pools, including Creston, Grant, Ida B. Wells, Peninsula, Pier, and Sellwood, are open and ready to welcome swimmers of all ages. Additionally, the Montavilla outdoor pool will be opening its doors on July 22, 2024, providing another fantastic venue for aquatic fun.
Parks and Recs says that Open Swim sessions are available for individuals of all ages. There is access to the swimming and diving areas. However, it is important to note that non-swimmers and children under 48 inches in height must have a parent or guardian, aged 16 or older, in the water within arm’s reach at all times. Furthermore, children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult or responsible person over the age of 16 within the facility premises.
For families looking to enjoy a recreational swim together, the Family Swim sessions are perfect. These sessions provide a delightful experience in the shallow water, complete with playmats, water basketball, and more. During Family Swim, children under 16 years old must be accompanied in the water by a parent or guardian. Non-swimmers and children under 48 inches in height must have a parent or guardian in the water within arm’s reach throughout the session. The sessions welcome single adults and tots aged two years and younger as well.
Adult/Preschool Swim sessions are designed for individuals who prefer a more relaxed atmosphere with a younger crowd. These sessions are open to children aged 5 years and under, with a parent or guardian required to accompany them in the water. Life jackets are available for non-swimmers, ensuring their safety and enjoyment.
During Play Swims, participants who wish to swim in the deep end or lap pool will be required to pass a swim test. Upon passing the test, swimmers will receive a wristband indicating their approval to access the deep end. Non-swimmers and individuals without a wristband will be kindly asked to move to shallow areas for their safety. It is important to note that life jackets are not allowed on the big slides or in the deep end. However, they are available to borrow and use during swims. The Portland Medium urges all to be safe, watch children, and take advantage of Swimming lessons for children and adults.
