The Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission (OLCC) is considering the suspension of the liquor license for Stop N Go Mini Mart in Portland after the owner was arrested earlier this month on drug trafficking allegations. On Friday, the OLCC issued an Emergency License Suspension Order, citing that the establishment’s continued operation poses a significant threat to public health and safety.
The agency noted five violations occurring in 2024 and 2025. The proximity of the mini mart to Dawson Park, a church, and educational institutions like a preschool and a medical center means that the potential for harm extends beyond just the customers of the mini mart.
Portland Police Bureau reported that 43-year-old Donald Sharma, who acquired the business in 2020, came under scrutiny after receiving tips regarding illegal activities in late 2023 or early 2024. The investigation began about a year ago and gained urgency due to the mini mart’s location near Dawson Park, a church, a preschool, and Legacy Emmanuel Medical Center.
During the arrest, law enforcement seized 102 grams of cocaine, 20 grams of heroin, 17 grams of methamphetamine, 889 fentanyl pills, several firearms, and $6,600 in cash. Sharma was taken into custody and booked on eight felony charges at Multnomah County Jail but was later released on bail.
The situation surrounding Stop N Go Mini Mart is quite serious, given the implications of drug trafficking and the potential risks to community safety. The investigation into Donald Sharma began when tips were received about suspicious activities at the mini mart. This led to a deeper dive by law enforcement, which revealed a significant amount of illicit drugs and firearms on the premises.
The upcoming hearing will be critical for both him and the OLCC, as it will determine whether the liquor license will be permanently revoked or if he can continue operating the business under certain conditions. Stop N Go Mini Mart has the right to contest these charges at a hearing scheduled by April 21.
