Authorities in Portland are actively searching for Mary Jacobo, the mother of a 2-year-old girl who died last month from suspected fentanyl exposure. Jacobo, 26, is also wanted for several violent crimes, and police have been unable to locate her for over three weeks.
The tragic incident occurred on September 12, when the young girl went into cardiac arrest and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where she later died. While the cause and manner of death have yet to be officially confirmed, the Portland Police Bureau indicated that fentanyl is believed to be a contributing factor based on evidence collected from the family home and information gathered from hospital staff.
Details about the deceased child’s identity have not been released by the police. Following the girl’s death, Jacobo reportedly left the home as the situation unfolded, prompting police to seek her for questioning. Despite extensive investigative efforts, law enforcement officials have been unsuccessful in locating her.
Since the tragic event, Jacobo has become a suspect in an armed carjacking and other unspecified crimes. Authorities have confirmed that she has multiple outstanding warrants for her arrest, but specific details regarding these charges have not been disclosed due to the ongoing investigation and Jacobo’s current status as a fugitive.
Portland Police Sgt. Kevin Allen emphasized the need for public assistance in locating Jacobo, warning that she is considered armed and dangerous. Described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighing approximately 135 pounds, Jacobo has hazel eyes and brown hair, which may have been recently dyed blonde. She is also known to have tattoos on her neck, chest, and left hand.
