Officers Seize 4 Firearms After Tip From Public

Acting swiftly on a tip from the public, the Portland Police Focused Intervention Team (FIT) successfully seized four firearms from a known felon on Friday, November 3, 2023. The tip was received through Crime Stoppers of Oregon, a program that enables citizens to provide anonymous information to law enforcement agencies. Crime Stoppers of Oregon offers cash rewards of up to $2,500 cash for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that leads to an arrest in any unsolved felony crime and tipsters remain anonymous.

The information provided indicated that a convicted felon was unlawfully in possession of firearms, posing a significant risk to the community. Taking the tip seriously, the FIT officers immediately mobilized to investigate the matter. Officers located the subject, David J. Oliver, 35, of Portland, who had an active felony warrant, near Northeast 92nd Avenue and Northeast Halsey Street.

Oliver was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm (4 counts), Unlawful Possession of Short-Barreled Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (3 counts), Theft in the First Degree, Possession of a Loaded Firearm in Public (city code, 2 counts), and Possession of a Controlled Substance Methamphetamine-Felony.
