Northeast Portland Man Found Dead by Police

Portland police found a man dead after a shooting in Northeast Portland. Cops said that a person involved in the incident remained at the scene. That person was cooperative however no arrests were made at that time. It happened Sunday night at Northeast Prescott Street near the Alberta neighborhood.

Officers received a report of a shooting in the 4500 block of Northeast 12th Avenue. They found the dead man when they arrived. Police did not say if they were looking for any additional subjects. Streets nearby were closed for the investigation by the Portland Police Homicide Unit. 

Portland continues to see an increase in gun violence. Ninety people were killed in 2021, marking the deadliest year in the city’s modern history. That year, there were over 1,200 shootings, compared to 400 shootings reported by police in 2019.

As of early July, there have been at least 41 homicides in Portland since the start of the year. There have been more than 685 reported shootings, according to Portland police. Portland crime stats show a dramatic rise in violent crime

According to the Portland police crime statistics report, we’re on track to see a dramatic rise in crime this year, and we’re only halfway through 2022.

The crime statistics only go up to May of this year so far, but we can already tell from these numbers, that the number of violent offenses is trending higher than the year before.

According to Portland Police’s report, as of May, there have been at least 37 homicides this year, and at least 35 of those are from shootings.

There have been 3721 assaults, 16 human trafficking offenses, 43 kidnappings or abduction, and 236 sex offenses. Compared to last year, homicides in 2021 are up 65% over 2020.

When looking at yearly offenses by precinct, comparing 2021 and 2020, the central precinct saw a 91% increase. East precinct saw a 29% increase, and north precinct saw a 95% increase. Aggravated assaults have also increased in every precinct.
