Man Killed During Alleged Robbery

Portland news lately has been about the violence in the city. Homelessness and poverty are also issues that often collide. Omar Greely, was shot and killed by a person inside an apartment after he allegedly tried to force his way inside the apartment and fired a shot. On Northeast 66th Avenue near Broadway, PPB said the person who shot and killed Greely called 911, stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Police said they’re not identifying the shooter at this time.

An autopsy performed by the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office determined Greely died from a gunshot wound, police said. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Officers first responded to the 1800 block of Northeast 66th Avenue in the Madison South neighborhood around 10:50 a.m. Monday following reports of gunfire, according to authorities.

Police say evidence suggests Greely was attempting to force his way into an apartment armed with a handgun and fired a shot before being shot and killed by a resident of the apartment. The apartment resident is cooperating with the investigation.
