Oregon State football has announced the appointment of Eron Hodges as General Manager, a move welcomed by Head Coach JaMarcus Shephard on Wednesday. With a wealth of experience in collegiate athletics, Hodges brings a strong background in player personnel and recruitment, having worked alongside some of the most esteemed coaches in college football.
“Eron Hodges has been involved with some of the most elite coaches in college football and has built great relationships with players and their families,” Shephard stated. “It is a pleasure to have him at Oregon State University, and we will build those same relationships here.” This emphasis on relationship-building is central to Hodges’ vision for the program, which he describes as a “hidden gem” in college football.
Hodges has most recently served as the Associate Director of Player Personnel at the University of Alabama for the past two seasons. His extensive experience includes roles at TCU, Louisville, Texas Tech, Purdue, and Ohio State, where he has consistently played a pivotal role in team success and recruitment strategies.
“I’m excited to be here,” Hodges remarked. “I’m ecstatic to roll up my sleeves with Coach Shephard and this elite staff to dig until we unearth all the gems within this team.” His goal is to rebuild the program to a level that fans, alumni, and former players can take pride in once again.
During his tenure at TCU from 2022 to 2023, Hodges served as both the director of recruiting and a defensive analyst, primarily working with cornerbacks. His previous experience includes a stint as a recruiting coordinator at Louisville and as the director of recruiting at Texas Tech.
Hodges’ accomplishments extend back to his time at Purdue, where he helped secure the highest-rated recruiting class in over a decade, ranked No. 25 nationally by 247sports.com. His earlier career included roles at Ohio State, Kent State, and even a position as a strength and conditioning coach at Notre Dame.
In addition to his professional achievements, Hodges has a unique background, having served four years in the U.S. Navy before entering collegiate athletics. He holds a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Illinois State and a master’s degree in sports management from Kent State. His diverse experience and commitment to fostering player development make him a significant addition to the Oregon State football program.
The appointment of Eron Hodges is contingent upon the completion of all university hiring processes, but his arrival marks a new chapter in Oregon State football’s efforts to enhance its program and build a robust community around its athletes.
