Fatal Incident At Delta Park MAX Station: Man Struck By Train

Authorities reported that a man was killed after being struck by a MAX train at the Delta Park Transit Station in North Portland on Wednesday night. The incident occurred around 8:34 p.m., prompting a response from Portland Fire and Rescue, who sadly confirmed that the man, believed to be in his mid-30s, did not survive. His identity has not been disclosed at this time.

According to Multnomah County Sheriff’s Deputy John Plock, the individual attempted to navigate between two MAX train cars just as one was departing the station. “It doesn’t appear that he was run over by the train, but it does look like he was dragged by it, and then his head struck an object along the tracks,” Plock explained.

In response to the tragedy, TriMet officials released a statement expressing condolences to all affected by the incident. “Such a loss of life is devastating for the loved ones of the person who died, as well as our operators, staff, and first responders,” they stated.

TriMet emphasized the importance of safety around their trains, urging the public to avoid entering restricted track areas, which are typically stabilized with rocks and gravel. They advised individuals to only use marked crossings when navigating tracks and to heed warning bells and horns when trains are approaching.

TriMet also recommended that people remove headphones and earbuds in the vicinity of the MAX trains to ensure they can hear necessary alerts. The light rail system serves as a critical transportation resource throughout the tri-county area, and TriMet is committed to maintaining safety for all commuters.

“Our thoughts are with everyone involved in the unfortunate incident that occurred at the Delta Park/Vanport MAX Station last night. Such a loss of life is devastating for the loved ones of the person who died as well as our operators, staff and first responders,” TriMet officials shared in a statement released to the media.
