Authorities have identified the pedestrian killed in a crash last Thursday in Northeast Portland as DaRon Craig. This incident occurred amid a series of three related crashes in the area. According to officials, the driver who struck the two pedestrians did not stop and continued driving, crossing the median before colliding head-on with two other vehicles.
Portland Fire and Rescue crews were dispatched just before noon after reports of a crash in the parking lot of the Safeway store on Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Concurrently, another accident was reported at the intersection of Ainsworth Street and SE MLK Boulevard.
In total, DaRon Craig, aged 49, lost his life, and four individuals were hospitalized following these interconnected incidents on August 10, 2025. One pedestrian involved in the crashes remains in the hospital with serious injuries, although his condition has stabilized and is no longer considered life-threatening.
Upon arrival, police discovered the two pedestrians on the sidewalk near MLK and Jarrett. Craig was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other pedestrian was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
Currently, no arrests or citations have been issued, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward. The driver of a silver Ford Escape SUV, initially traveling north on MLK, is believed to be connected to all three crashes, though police do not suspect foul play. The driver was present at the third crash site and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Notably, the driver has two prosthetic limbs, and investigators are exploring whether this may have contributed to the incidents.
