Show Dogs Stolen Then Recovered

A cargo Mercedes van was stolen from the parking lot of a hotel in the 12200 block of North Jantzen Drive on Saturday at 7:45a.m. The North Precinct Public Safety Support Specialists responded to a report of the theft of Four terrier pups, three Scottish terriers and one cairn terrier. They all in dog crates for the ride to the Expo Center. However, the cargo van was left running in the parking lot of the Oxford Suites at Jantzen Beach.

Vandra Huber, who owns 2 of the 4 terrier puppies and the van was majorly distraught. Everyone were ready to go to the Rose City Classic Winter Dog Show when it all happened. Then hundreds of tips came pouring in. Huber’s husband got the call that the four stolen show dogs were recovered safely. It happened within a day.

Huber told sources, “When found, the terriers were unharmed, but the young puppies were now a bit shy but that will turn around very quickly.” “The vehicle was completely trashed”, she said.

The tires were slashed and the center console was ripped out. But Huber said she’s happy the puppies are now safe and sound. Huber says, she plans on naming one of her newest puppies after the man who spotted the van and returned the dogs without asking for a reward.

The dark blue 2020 Mercedes-Benz Metris cargo van was spotted in Vancouver by a man who told Huber he wasn’t interested in the $10,000 reward. She said the man told her he spotted the van after seeing it on the news. Huber said the good Samaritan who only wanted to be identified as “J” spotted the dogs and drove them back to the hotel where she was staying. “You can replace a van, but you can’t replace the love of your life,” Huber said.
