Big Summer Beer Festival Canceled

This past weekend organizers of the 30 year old brewer festival, blamed higher costs, lower attendance and extreme weather as some of the reasons for their decision to cancel. Organizers of the festival added that those were just a few of the challenges.

Former festival goers and the festival’s organizers state that the festival is one of the longest running beer craft beer festivals in the U.S. It was scheduled to take place at Tom McCall Waterfront Park from July 27 to 29. But, due to extreme weather around 100 degrees, the events’ organizers canceled.

This cancellation came after a two year cancellation from the COVID-19 outbreak. The festival had seen attendance decline in the years even before the pandemic. Another layer of struggles was piled on by COVID, which forced the cancellations in 2020 and 2021.

Founded in 1988, the Oregon Brewers Festival is one of the nation’s longest-running and best-loved craft beer festivals and is considered a craft beer destination. The OBF takes place at Tom McCall Waterfront Park, 300 SW Naito Parkway, Portland, Oregon 97204. There are two entrances: Oak Street, and under the Morrison St Bridge.

Art Larrance, founder of Portland Brewing Co. had been to Oktoberfest in Munich and wanted to create a similar atmosphere while exposing locals to the variety of good microbrews. Back then, there were only four microbreweries in operation in Portland Today, the Oregon Brewers Festival is one of the nation’s longest-running and best-loved craft beer festivals; it’s also one the largest of its kind.
