62-Year-Old Man Killed In N. Portland Shooting


Charles M. Edwards Sr., 62, was identified by Portland police as the victim of a fatal shooting on May 27, 2022, in North Portland’s St. Johns neighborhood. The police said the man was shot in a home. The Medical Examiner’s Office stated that Charles M. Edwards Sr. died from a gunshot wound. It was ruled a homicide. 

Edwards, a Portland resident, body was found inside a home across the street from George Middle School. Officers responded about 6 a.m. to a report of a man found dead near North Columbia Boulevard and Bank Street.

A 22-year-old resident said his girlfriend heard about eight gunshots around 1:15 a.m. The resident wants to remain anonymous due to safety concerns. The couple live three blocks from where the murder happened.

Another resident said he really like the victim. He said he was a really pleasant person. Others began spreading the word about the death of their neighbor. On a scale where crime is ranked 1 (low crime) to 100 (high crime),  Portland violent crime is 21.7. The national average is 22.7.

US News and World Report reporting about the city stated that in the metropolis wracked by gang violence, fear and frustration have settled over Portland. News of violence make some wary to go out at night. It stated last year that unlike previous years, more bystanders are being caught in the crossfire — from people mourning at vigils and sitting in cars to children playing in a park.
