Portland Ranked In Top 50 Safest Cities

Portland, Oregon, ranks among the top 50 safest cities in the United States. However, the Pacific Northwest city has also found itself on Trump’s hate list, making the timing of this report even more significant. A recent study by SmartAsset set out to determine the safest major cities across the nation.

Portland, Oregon, came in at 43rd place on the list, with lower rates of drug overdose deaths and traffic fatalities compared to several neighboring cities. In this analysis, SmartAsset evaluated 50 of the largest cities, focusing on various factors including violent crime rates, property crime rates, vehicular mortality rates, and other safety indicators.

San Jose, California, topped the list, demonstrating excellence in every category assessed. It boasts the third-lowest violent crime rate in the country relative to its population and the fifth-lowest property crime rate.

Los Angeles closely follows as the second safest city, with similar results across crime metrics and a significantly lower vehicular mortality rate compared to San Jose.

Three cities in Texas also made the top ten: Fort Worth at No. 3, Arlington at No. 7, and El Paso at No. 8. All three cities report a lower incidence of excessive drinking among adults compared to other top contenders, except for San Jose, which also has a lower percentage.
