Oregon Department of Education Launches 2026 Teacher of the Year Program

The Oregon Department of Education (ODE), in collaboration with the Oregon Lottery, has announced the return of the Oregon Teacher of the Year program, aimed at recognizing outstanding educators from every region of the state. Nominations are currently open and will remain so until 5 p.m. on February 11, 2026.

This program celebrates teacher excellence, with the state Teacher of the Year acting as a representative and advocate for exemplary educators throughout Oregon. Candidates must be dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled licensed public school teachers in grades preK-12.

Eligible teachers who receive nominations will be invited to complete an application. Those who apply will compete for the title of Regional Teacher of the Year within one of the 19 Education Service Districts statewide. Each Regional Teacher of the Year will receive a $1,000 award and will be honored in September during a statewide celebration.

A blue ribbon panel will select the finalists for the 2026-27 Oregon Teacher of the Year from the regional winners. After reviewing additional application materials and conducting interviews, the panel will determine the state honoree. Thanks to the partnership with the Oregon Lottery, the Oregon Teacher of the Year will receive a $10,000 award and a dedicated fund to cover all travel expenses throughout the year.

In addition to the state recognition, the Oregon Teacher of the Year will also have the opportunity to apply for the prestigious National Teacher of the Year award, further showcasing their commitment to education and excellence in teaching. The ODE encourages all eligible educators to participate in this opportunity to be recognized for their hard work and dedication to shaping the future of Oregon’s students.
