Jogger Almost Kidnapped at Gunpoint

Police are searching for a man who tried to kidnap a jogger at Gunpoint in SE Portland. It happened early Thursday morning. It was reported that officers responded about 4:30 a.m. to a report of an attempted kidnapping at 70th Avenue and Woodward Street. Once there they found a 42-year-old woman hiding.

The frightened woman approached the cops and told them she was jogging in the South Tabor neighborhood when a man driving a light green Subaru Outback asked her for directions.

The woman told the cops that the man spoke quietly. He then pulled out a handgun and demanded she get in the car. She took off running but the man drove away.

Police said that they searched the area but did not find the man. They didn’t say whether they believed the story to be credible or not. They asked anyone in the area with surveillance cameras to review footage from that morning and contact them.

The woman said the man was in his 30s or 40s and wore glasses. She also said that he had a thin beard. She did not say much more than that.

Police think that he may have done this before and is still doing it. They are requesting help from the community. Cops thought that the man may have been circling nearby blocks in the Subaru before approaching the woman.
