A tragic accident occurred in a northeast Portland neighborhood, resulting in the death of a homeowner during a stump removal operation. Emergency responders were called to the scene after a devastating equipment malfunction incident involving a massive 1200lb stump.
The Portland Fire & Rescue Technical Rescue Team received the distress call at approximately 9:15 a.m. and swiftly arrived at the northeast Portland neighborhood. Their objective was to establish a high-angle rope system to safely remove the heavy stump that had tragically fallen onto the homeowner’s body.

From home renovations to crafting, people are increasingly taking matters into their own hands. However, along with the rise in DIY enthusiasm comes a concerning trend – an increase in the number of people harmed in DIY accidents.
According to Portland Fire & Rescue, the homeowner had been attempting to remove the large stump from their yard when an unforeseen equipment failure occurred. The safety measures in place, including a come-a-long winch and guy wire, malfunctioned, leading to the catastrophic event of the stump crushing the individual.
The spouse of the homeowner made the shocking discovery this morning and immediately alerted emergency services.
