Multnomah County will close the Hawthorne Bridge to all motorized vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists on Sunday, June 22, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for scheduled maintenance. During the closure, crews will grease the bridge’s counterweight cables, a routine procedure necessary for the continued operation of the lift span.
Travelers are advised to use alternate routes during the 12-hour closure. The work is weather dependent. If postponed due to inclement weather, the closure will take place the following Sunday, June 29, during the same hours.
The Hawthorne Bridge is one of five Willamette River bridges maintained by Multnomah County, along with the Sellwood, Morrison, Burnside, and Broadway Bridges. The county also maintains the Wapato Bridge over the Multnomah Channel.
