City Of Portland Seeks Experienced Individuals for Plumbing Code Board Of Appeal

The City of Portland is actively seeking skilled and passionate individuals with expertise in plumbing and construction to join the Plumbing Code Board of Appeal. This three-person advisory body plays a crucial role in reviewing appeals from plumbing contractors, ensuring the conformity of construction plans with the City’s Plumbing Code.

 The Plumbing Code Board of Appeals serves as a three-person advisory body tasked with reviewing appeals from plumbing contractors who contest decisions made by City building officials. The aim is to ensure that construction plans align with the City’s Plumbing Code. The board engages in discussions with appellants and City building officials, issuing rulings on whether to uphold decisions or allow proposed plumbing plans to proceed with minor changes.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the advisory committee, members must have a connection to the City of Portland, either by living, playing, worshiping, going to school, working, or doing business within its boundaries. The Board comprises one licensed plumbing contractor, one member engaged in the design of plumbing installations, and one member from the public-at-large. The City is currently recruiting for one regular and one alternate position.

The Bureau of Development Services is undergoing significant transformation, emphasizing more online and remote services. The City is actively seeking individuals who can contribute diverse perspectives and advice on serving communities of color through the application of building codes. Desired attributes include a belief in community involvement in government, advocacy for racial equity, perspectives on navigating the community with a disability, and a commitment to attending and actively participating in meetings.

The Plumbing Code Board of Appeal meets on an as-needed basis when appeals are received. Meetings typically last no longer than two hours and are currently held online via Zoom. Members serve a term of three years with the possibility of renewal for a second three-year term.
