Portland Middle School Teacher Caught, Arrested Luring A Minor

A math teacher at Hosford Middle School, Craig Douglas-Meyers, 38, was arrested Friday morning on felony charges of luring a minor, according to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB). The arrest, which took place at his home in Northeast Portland, follows a weeks-long investigation that raised concerns about the potential for additional victims.

The investigation began on July 18 when a detective from Yuba City, California, contacted PPB’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit. The detective had been conducting an undercover operation, posing as a 13-year-old child. During this operation, Douglas-Meyers allegedly initiated conversations that were “sexual in nature” and involved discussions about how to meet in person.

PPB officials expressed alarm over Douglas-Meyers’ “brazen conversations” with someone he believed to be a minor, especially given his position as a teacher. In light of these revelations, detectives are concerned that there may be additional victims and have released a photo of Douglas-Meyers in hopes of identifying any potential other victims.

Portland Public Schools has stated that they are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. A spokesperson for the district indicated that there is currently no evidence to suggest that any students from Portland Public Schools were impacted by Douglas-Meyers’ actions. Douglas-Meyers has been with Hosford Middle School since 2009.

Following his arrest, Douglas-Meyers reportedly told detectives, “I haven’t done anything wrong.” He is currently being held at the Multnomah County Detention Center and is scheduled for arraignment on Monday.
