CNN Suspends Chris Cuomo For Helping Brother

From their father Mario to the sons Andrew and Chris, the Cuomos are always front and center on the issues sorrounding race and fairness. So many hate to see these brothers in trouble. But, Chris is in trouble for doing what most would do – assist a close family member in need. However, he was suspended for the deed. The suspension came after significant criticism from people who noted that Chris Cuomo had violated widely accepted journalistic norms. Inside CNN, staffers expressed dismay about the anchor’s conduct.

The CNN anchor pressed sources for information on his brother’s accusers and reported back to the governor’s staff, and was active in helping craft their response to the charges, according to emails and a transcript of his testimony to investigators working for state Attorney General Letitia James. Her office found Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed at least 11 women.

When Chris admitted to us that he had offered advice to his brother’s staff, he broke our rules and we acknowledged that publicly,” said the CNN spokesperson. When Andrew Cuomo resigned as governor in August, Chris Cuomo told CNN viewers that he was “not an advisor,” but “a brother.” He acknowledged that he talked with his brother’s aides and gave his “take” until CNN told him to stop doing so in May. The anchor at the time also took to his show to say that he is “family first and job second” and apologized for how he helped his brother.

“This is my brother, and I’m trying to help my brother through a situation where he told me he did nothing wrong,” Cuomo testified last July to investigators at the attorney general’s office. Cuomo mentions he did nothing to influence his own network’s coverage of the story. Cuomo, a lawyer, is 13 years younger than Andrew Cuomo, who he has described as his best friend. They are the sons of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo, who was in office from 1982 to 1996.
