Next Household Waste Collection Set for September 13 at Clark College

Beginning in September, Clark County residents will have three more opportunities to safely dispose of household hazardous waste and other items commonly found in garages, kitchens and utility rooms at the Green Neighbors Recycling Day events.

Green Neighbors, a Clark County Environmental Services program that promotes environmentally friendly and sustainable practices, sponsored six free collections events earlier this year. All events are in partnership with each city and town in the county and the Washington State Department of Ecology, which provides grant funding.

“In the spring, Recycling Day events collected almost 120 tons of material from more than 1,300 county residents,” said Don Benton, Environmental Services director. “These three events will give residents opportunities to keep even more materials out of our landfills.”

Block foam, electronic equipment, old tires, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioning units, scrap metal, woody yard debris and household hazardous waste such as pesticides, paints, solvents, thinners, motor oil and cleaners will be accepted at the events. Free shredding also will be available for a limited amount of paper.

Some restrictions apply. For details about specific events, residents can visit the Green Neighbors website.

Participants are encouraged to bring a donation of nonperishable food for local food banks.

This program is open to all residents of Clark County. The last three 2014 Saturday collection events are:

· Sept. 13, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Clark College, Red Lot 3, 1933 Fort Vancouver Way; shredding in Purple Lot 1, 1800 Fort Vancouver Way.
· Sept. 20, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., 99th Street Transit Center, 9700 N.E. Seventh Ave. Enter from Northeast 94th Street.
· Oct. 4, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Battle Ground High School, 300 W. Main St. Enter from North Parkway Avenue.
